Wyss stood atop a snow-capped mountain, gazing out to the horizon as the sun rose, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. The air was crisp and cold, but he felt warmth in his heart, for the endless winter that had plagued the land had finally come to an end. Spring was on its way, and with it, a new beginning.
Wyss had fought tirelessly to bring forth this change, to end the tyranny of the goddess of winter, Morena, and to restore balance to the world. But now that the fight was over, he found himself at a loss. He had been consumed by thoughts of revenge for so long that he hadn’t planned for what came next.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, remembering the letter left to him by his ally, Daki, a snow-white tiefling who had died in the fight against Morena. The letter had encouraged him to seek out color in the world, something that Wyss hadn’t seen much of in Icebeach.
Wyss thought on it for a moment, then glanced down at the knight chess piece left to him by Davarian, another friend who had lost his life in the adventure. Wyss twiddled with it lightly, lost in thought. Fully knowing the dark power that rests between his fingers – the power to kill a god.
Despite this power, he wondered if he was truly strong enough for his revenge yet. He had lost so much already, and he knew that the path to revenge would be long and treacherous. Further, after all this death he saw throughout the conflict, he hesitated to even ask his surviving allies to join him in his quest. Exasperated by these difficult thoughts, Wyss sighed. Maybe Daki was right. Maybe he needed to find a different way to heal his heart and to find purpose in his life, even for just this moment.
With a resolute nod, Wyss stood up and began to retrieve Daki’s items that were strewn about the slowly melting snow. He had decided to carry out his friend’s wishes first, to find the color in the world and to see the beauty in life, and to repay his debts. Maybe he will pay this Viktor character a visit and teach him a lesson in respecting family.
As he gathered the items and turned to look at his other surviving allies still at the makeshift graves for lives lost, Wyss felt a sense of peace wash over him. For the first time in a long while, he wasn’t consumed by thoughts of revenge. Instead, he was focused on the present moment, on the small things that made life worth living, and on how we was even going to get off this damned rock. He heard about a whale or something, but he didn’t know if the other two could hold their breath like he could.
Ultimately, Wyss knew that he would return to his goal of revenge eventually, but for now, he was content to explore the world and to find joy in the things around him. Who knows, maybe a little bit of color would help him achieve his revenge anyway.
