The air was cold, and the ground was slick with ice as the adventurers of Sub-Rosa charged towards the goddess of winter, Morena. The goddess stood tall, her body emanating a cold aura that made the very air around her freeze.
Davarian summoned a powerful death knight, and the god slaying undead charged towards the goddess. With a roar, it ripped into the goddess, pushing her back. Morena was no stranger to battle, though, and she deftly shot shards of ice at the party, cutting through them and injuring the undead soldier.
As the battle ensued, Tolinn flew on a magical broomstick, weaving in and out of the fight while launching a barrage of magical missiles at the goddess. His attacks hit her, and while they individually did little damage, the incessant barrage of magical bullets courtesy of the Beccian Empire whittled away at the constitution of Morena, and soon she took shape into her second form: a massive warrior of ice.
Wyss, surrounded by the hounds of winter and ice mephits summoned by the goddess, used shadowy magic to cut a path through the frozen horde and ran towards the Tyrant of Winter. With a thunderous crack, Wyss summoned a sphere of thunder, devastating the goddess as she went on the defense. His spells were relentless, and the goddess struggled to keep up with his onslaught. As she stumbled back to regain her footing, the death knight seized the opportunity to sink his evil blade into her, and she took shape once more into a heart of ice, with a raging blizzard encircling her and blinding all within it; this was her third and final form.
Kalus fought the goddess’ hounds of winter, striking them down one by one back to back with Davarian. His watchful eye disrupted the goddess’ attacks on the party, allowing them to push forward in their assault. Righteous fury crashed down upon his foes, and the goddess would cry in anguish as her pets were put to his radiant sword.
But the goddess was not without her own tricks. Daki, the rogue, had tragically been slain in a brief moment of weakness capitalized on by one of the hounds and was now controlled by the goddess. She used Daki to strike at their former allies, sending them tumbling to the ground. Just as Daki would become one of the more difficult challenges in the encounter, Wyss sealed them away in an iron flask. Hoping to save them later with healing magic.
But the memory of Daki pushed the heroes to fight harder and stronger. Enraged by Morena’s twisted schemes, they attacked the goddess with all their might, determined to end her reign of terror.
In a final, desperate charge through the frozen core’s blizzard, Davarian struck the finishing blow alongside Kalus’ spirit guardians. He plunged his trident deep into the goddess’ icy core, shattering it into a million pieces. The cold aura dissipated, and the natural order of seasons was restored. His revenge had been completed, and soon he would fade away – but he had protected his allies and saw the quest through to the end.
As the sun began to rise on the horizon, a beautiful sunrise greeted the heroes. The snow began to melt, and the calls of animals could be heard in the distance once more. The long winter was finally over, and it truly felt like the world was reborn.
Breathless and exhausted, the adventurers sat along the cliff of Morena’s domain, and said their goodbyes. They had brought spring back to the land, and while this tale had come to an end, the heroes that survived: Wyss, Tolinn, and Kalus will continue to march on, pushing the legacy of Sub-Rosa to new heights.
